About the Scholarship

Thank you for taking the time to read about my daughter, Jamaari Adams. The J. Nicole Memorial Scholarship was established after the passing of my daughter at the age of 17. Jamaari’s light, smile, and love continue to live on through those who she loved and those who truly loved her in return. She is so dearly missed.

Jamaari was a beautiful young lady with goals and dreams, a caring heart, and an infectious spirit that lives on in so many. I often wonder about the dreams she would have pursued and the future she deserved to experience. She often showed up for others with support, encouragement, laughter, and creating forever memories. Her value on true friendship and family was undeniable. She had a smile and laugh that would brighten a person’s day even if her day was not going so good for her. She would push past her struggles and not allow others to see her hurt.

Jamaari loved basketball since elementary school. She was not always the best player, however, she was a good team player and teammate. She aspired to become an athletic trainer. At the age of 15, she started interning as a sport medicine intern. Jamaari spent countless hours in gyms rendering first-aid to young athletes during travel basketball season when she was not playing in her own travel ball games.

While I can no longer watch her become the woman she was becoming, I can honor her by ensuring that her spirit and legacy continues to shine. This scholarship is for students who support those around them, fight through the challenges, and demonstrate compassion. This scholarship is more than financial support. This says “I believe in you” and I don’t even know you. In Jamaari’s absence, it is my hope that the recipient carry the same care for others, love, strength, and determination to succeed through challenges that made my baby so special.

This scholarship was developed to support a first year college student who has the opportunity to fulfill a goal Jamaari did not get the chance to do. Someone with goals to pursue a career in the health science field (I.e., nurse, doctor, patient care, occupational therapist, physical therapist, respiratory therapist, athletic trainer)

To the recipient:

As long as you have breath, you have a purpose. Academic success is important, however so is the way you treat others. God has so much in store for you. Never make a decision without talking to him first. Always remember you matter, your goals matter, your perseverance is not in vain, and your future is worth fighting for. Please move forward with respect, determination, and kindness. Believe in yourself and never take a single day for granted. Tonight or tomorrow is not promised to anyone. You are not invincible. However, the impact you make today will last forever. Thank you for helping to keep Jamaari’s memory alive. I’m rooting for you.
